CARIBBEAN WEEK IN NEW YORK

NEW YORK, NY (April 26, 2012) – Summer will again be ushered in for New Yorkers by Caribbean Week which this year will sizzle from June 3 to 9.
The celebration of the sights, sounds, color and culture of the Caribbean region will dazzle Gothamites but the week has a prominent tourism promotion side to it.
So, a sizeable contingent of Caribbean leaders, including Ministers and Commissioners of Tourism, Directors of Tourism, national tourist office representatives and other key tourism and hospitality officials will be on hand to promote vacation experiences to potential consumers in different parts of the city.
Commuters will be treated to a day-long Caribbean Travel and Cultural Fair and Vacation Mart at New York’s Grand Central Terminal.
A Media Marketplace, which draws travel writers from across North America, will showcase for reporters the many faces of the Caribbean, also known as America’s Third Border.
Artists, performers, celebrity chefs, fashion designers, models, investors and other strategic partners are getting set for the week as they join government officials and the media for a showcase of the diversity and vibrancy of the region.
Organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), Caribbean Week in New York combines business sessions and consumer-oriented events with food, fashion, entertainment and networking opportunities.
The week begins with a Gospel Celebration and culminates with a Caribbean Fashion, Art and Trade Expo.
The region, for some, is synonymous with the liquor manufactured from sugar cane so another major consumer activity will be the Rum and Rhythm Charity Event with rum tastings and delicious cuisine combined with music, dancing and Caribbean entertainment.
There will also be a live auction of vacation packages available for purchase with proceeds going to the CTO Foundation to assist the education of Caribbean young people.
Fora focusing on students, the Diaspora and investment opportunities will educate the public.
Also planned is a Caribbean Wedding sponsored by MarryCaribbean.com. A winning couple will have the opportunity to exchange vows at the Fair at Grand Central Terminal. They will have their wedding fully paid for, receive a romantic Caribbean honeymoon, and gifts from Caribbean countries.
Caribbean Week in New York is held each year during Caribbean American Heritage Month.
