BROOKLYN, New York (June 5, 2011) – Senator Allen Chastanet, Saint Lucia’s Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, will salute Saint Lucian nationals in New York on Friday, June 10, 2011.
Senator Chastanet travels to Washington and New York for meetings with international organizations and to participate in Caribbean Week in New York, produced by the Caribbean Tourism Organization from June 5 to 11.
This Friday, he takes a break from business meetings to address a “Soufrière Soiree” in Brooklyn, the New York borough known as “The Caribbean Capital of America”.
The Senator, who is the United Workers Party representative for Soufrière and Fond St. Jacques, will discuss the party’s socio-economic development plans for the former French colonial capital.
In addition, Minister Chastanet will share his government’s vision for the nation’s sustained development and its relevance to the wider region with overseas nationals of Saint Lucia and other Caribbean states.
The Senator champions the need to recognize the important role overseas island communities can play back in their homelands.
“As a previous member of the Diaspora myself, I look forward to meeting with our nationals who continue to work hard to build communities in America while making an enormous contribution to our lives here in Saint Lucia,” declared Senator Chastanet.
In his talks Senator Chastanet will highlight the successes and future plans to improve life in Saint Lucia; opportunities for Saint Lucians to invest in their homeland; and the valuable role they can play as “tourism ambassadors” of the Eastern Caribbean nation.
Organized by members of New York’s Saint Lucian community, the meeting will be held at 1367 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn (Corner of Ralph Avenue) and starts at 7 p.m.
Refreshments will be served.
